National History
The year was 1901 and the first meeting of Sigma Phi Epsilon was held at Richmond College in Richmond, VA. Over the next forty years, chapters emerged throughout the East Coast and Midwest. Sigma Phi Epsilon merged with Theta Upsilon Omega, becoming one of the premier national fraternities. This growth continued throughout the first half of the century, peaking in the 1960s and 70s. However, the 80s brought about change for Sigma Phi Epsilon. Declining fraternity numbers nationwide forced SigEp to re-evaluate the group's purpose and objectives.

The SigEp Chapter at the University of Richmond Thus, Sigma Phi Epsilon began the Balanced Man Project, or BMP, in 1991. The new outlook on fraternity life emphasizes the key points of diligence, virtue, and brotherly love. Since instating the BMP, Sigma Phi Epsilon has become the largest national fraternity, and continues its growth today. |
