Queen of Hearts
Among the many service events we participate in, our most well-known philanthropy event is an annual week of programming designed to raise awareness and money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Iowa. The week is dedicated to the memory of Eric Grunzinger, a Drake student and SigEp brother who passed away in 2001 from complications of Leukemia.

Our 2005 "Queen of Hearts" week, the name for our event, was the week of September 26th, with a culminating softball tournament on the 1st. During the week we put on a series of events to educate and enlighten the Drake campus on the effects, possible cures, and ways to help fight against leukemia and lymphoma. These events were also used to fundraise for our philanthropy. Events in past have consisted of competitions between the sororities as well as selling t-shirts to the entire campus. Since its inception in 2001, SigEp has raised over $10,000 from the Drake community to give back to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The most exciting event for Drake students and SigEp brothers is the softball tournament at the end of the week where co-ed, fraternity and sorority teams take to the Drake intramural fields for a full day of great softball action in hopes of being named SigEp's Queen of Hearts champion. |
